These guidelines apply to planted forests that fulfl productive functions for the provision of wood,
fbre and non-wood forest products or protective functions for the provision of environmental and/
or social services. They cover all aspects of planted forests, from policy development and planning
through the technical considerations of planted forest management. The scope of the guidelines
is global: they may be adopted and applied to planted forests in all ecogeographical zones and
to countries, regions and landscapes in all stages of economic development. Acceptance and
implementation of the voluntary guidelines is not legally binding.

This volume of the World Health Organization’s describes the present state of knowledge regarding
the impact of wastewater use in agriculture on the health of product consumers, workers and their
families and local communities. It provides information on the assessment and management of risks
associated with microbial hazards and toxic chemicals. It explains requirements to promote the safe
use of wastewater in agriculture including minimum procedures and specifc health-based targets,
and how those requirements are intended to be used. This volume also describes approaches used
in deriving the guidelines, including health-based targets, and includes a substantive revision of
approaches to ensuring microbial safety.
